Directions
Prior to application, gently clean any dirt or debris from treatment area. DO NOT pick off any existing scabs. Allow scabs to fall off on their own with Paste.
Using fingertips, scoop paste from container and spread thickly over treatment area. Spread as if covering bread with peanut butter, spread to surrounding areas and down to the skin. Do not rub in.
Let paste dry to a near white shell and leave on for several days.
Reapply as necessary until skin is fully healed.
For open wounds, to achieve better adhesion of the paste, first dry oozing by patting with a clean cloth and/or applying COAT DEFENSE® daily Preventative Powder.
Paste is also effective if thinned out with water or witch hazel. A more paint like layer of the paste provides an effective barrier between exposed skin (ears, bellies, etc.) and biting insects.
To remove, please wet first. Paste become abrasive when it is dry.
Use COAT DEFENSE® daily Preventative Powder to prevent future flare-ups. It’s a game changer for prevention!
For dark horses: In very rare instances, regular use of COAT DEFENSE® TROUBLE SPOT DRYING PASTE may magnify the lightening effect of the sunlight and sweat. For our peace of mind, please test in a small area first.
My horse had rubbed his forehead raw under the forelock where his fly mask rubbed. I used this coat defense to heal. He tolerated it as it didnt sting. It has also helped the hair grow back!
This stuff is amazing. I put it on a mare we bought that had rainrot on her hips, and scratches on her legs. It is all clearing up and the hair is coming back!
This is absolutely the best horse product I have ever purchased. Not only does it treat scratches which is virtually impossible to treat with anything else but it also serves as a protecting healing barrier for cuts. Especially in the summer this is important because it keeps the flies out of open and healing cuts. I have purchased the clay and the powder for the last couple years and I love both products but the clay is the most outstanding tool I have. Don't ever stop making it!
NOTHING has had an impact on "scratches" - even expensive presecription concoctions. Coat Defense Drying Paste....was not only pain relieving as witnessed by me in applying it....but within 3-4 days....the lesions were drying up and disappearing. Hair was re-growing within 2 weeks. LOVE this product. It is the only solution and it works quickly. Used it on some other fungus related areas and clear within one week. So glad I tried it!!!
This is a really great product. Have a 35 year old named Classy who lost all of his hair after shedding out this spring with some kind of skin affliction.
Put this product on for about 2 weeks and the hair started to grow back!
Thank you
Easy to apply and it works great. Covers and stays on the areas you need it to. Keeps flies from irritating the area of concern and help with the healing process.
My horse had a horsefly bite that wouldn’t heal because the gnats kept stirring it up. I tried several products. This is the only one that stayed on, protected the wound, and allowed it to heal. Thank you for such a great product!
We just got a gray pony and her skin was pretty bad bought the paste, powder and shampoo and she is so much better after just 2 times of using the products
My horse is turned out in a group and can come in from pasture with some battle marks! This products reduces swelling and dries the wound, also stays on the coat to keep flys away!
I admit that I was skeptical... BUT, I have a mare with bad summer sweet itch (insect bite allergies) and her ears were badly eaten up and inflamed and oozing. She did not even want me to touch them or put a fly mask with ears on her. Very gently and carefully, I started putting the drying paste on her poor ears and in a very short time they showed a huge improvement. This also worked a treat on some scabs on her face where she was trying to rub her itches. Before long she would lower her head to let me put the paste on them. I am no longer a skeptic! Thx for a great product! Jo & Belle
My mare is allergic to life in the summer. Coat defense enables me to ride her because she's not completely miserable. She suffers from sweet itch and hives. The paste and powder help relieve some of her discomfort. Her cannon bone area and insides of her hocks and stifles are looking better than they ever have for this time of year.
Leg scrape on my horses upper forearm that SilverHoney, Blue Coat and Furozone, fly boots, Steroid shots did not help. It would begin to heal and she'd reach down and itch it with her teeth. Coat Defense coated the scrape to keep flies off etc and alowed the scrape to heal. It also took the itch away.
Store owner replied:
Hi Lorelei, we would love to hear what tack stores are local to you. They may already carry our products, but we would be happy to reach out to them.
The drying paste and coat powder have really helped my two horses with their sweet itch here in the very hot and humid South near the coast. This is my first year using the powder and the results have been terrific. I put the powder at the top of all 3 of my horses tails every night and tail rubbing has decreased markedly making my husband happy with much less fence mending!
I have a 26 yr old retired Saddlebred show horse with Cushings and poor circulation in his hind legs. Every summer is a challenge with scratches that never seem to heal. If I catch it early enough I can keep it under control with acne cleanser and zinc oxide ointment, but not this year! I saw an ad for Coat Defense paste and decided to try it. The first time I used it the clay was too thick and wouldn’t stay on. Then I learned you can thin it with water and that made all the difference. I love how it coats the sores and only comes off when it’s ready. It’s been a real lifesaver for us!
My horse suffers a bit from bug bites in the summer. I’ve been using Coat Defense Drying Paste on bug bites and any sores they create. I love it, she loves it… the flies don’t love it! I really love how it smells and how easy it is to use.
