Directions
Prior to application, gently clean any dirt or debris from treatment area. DO NOT pick off any existing scabs. Allow scabs to fall off on their own with Paste.
Using fingertips, scoop paste from container and spread thickly over treatment area. Spread as if covering bread with peanut butter, spread to surrounding areas and down to the skin. Do not rub in.
Let paste dry to a near white shell and leave on for several days.
Reapply as necessary until skin is fully healed.
For open wounds, to achieve better adhesion of the paste, first dry oozing by patting with a clean cloth and/or applying COAT DEFENSE® daily Preventative Powder.
Paste is also effective if thinned out with water or witch hazel. A more paint like layer of the paste provides an effective barrier between exposed skin (ears, bellies, etc.) and biting insects.
To remove, please wet first. Paste become abrasive when it is dry.

For dark horses: In very rare instances, regular use of COAT DEFENSE® TROUBLE SPOT DRYING PASTE may magnify the lightening effect of the sunlight and sweat. For our peace of mind, please test in a small area first.
I love this stuff. I use it for everything. I even use it on me. In this situation, though I had a broodmare that is not well trained at all. We adopted her a few years ago and she sliced her foot pretty good. I wanted something that I could put on her wrap up and not have to look at for two or three days because this was not going to be a situation where I could tend to her every day. . So we cleaned what you saw and we put Coat Defense paste in there and wrapped it up and four days later we opened it up. It was halfway healed. We did it one more time and her foot is totally healed within two weeks.
I sent the before and after photos-Hope of came through-He's much improved-I love the way the paste sticks to the hair and the lesions. It's wonderful stuff.
My horse had rubbed his forehead raw under the forelock where his fly mask rubbed. I used this coat defense to heal. He tolerated it as it didnt sting. It has also helped the hair grow back!
This stuff is amazing. I put it on a mare we bought that had rainrot on her hips, and scratches on her legs. It is all clearing up and the hair is coming back!
This is absolutely the best horse product I have ever purchased. Not only does it treat scratches which is virtually impossible to treat with anything else but it also serves as a protecting healing barrier for cuts. Especially in the summer this is important because it keeps the flies out of open and healing cuts. I have purchased the clay and the powder for the last couple years and I love both products but the clay is the most outstanding tool I have. Don't ever stop making it!
NOTHING has had an impact on "scratches" - even expensive presecription concoctions. Coat Defense Drying Paste....was not only pain relieving as witnessed by me in applying it....but within 3-4 days....the lesions were drying up and disappearing. Hair was re-growing within 2 weeks. LOVE this product. It is the only solution and it works quickly. Used it on some other fungus related areas and clear within one week. So glad I tried it!!!

My horse gets terrible summer sores in the corner of her mouth every summer. I've tried everything. Someone recommended Coat Defense and out of desperation I ordered a small jar. It cleared the first one up in 3 weeks! After battling all summer, the results were great. She broke with one on the other side that we are treating now. Also, fly bites on her belly are completely protected and healed with this product!
My Clyde/DHH gelding rubbed out a three-foot chunk of underside of his mane our first summer and I spent a year trying to grow it back. Expensive imported creams, serums, everything. I was resigned to him living with a combover when a friend let me try her jar of Trouble Spot.
A month of daubing this paste along his crest and his mane is growing back!!! He visibly likes having it put on, too. He sighs and relaxes within seconds of applying it.
Once I learned how to apply it, it stayed on well. It took about 3 weeks to really dry the scratches up sufficiently. There are only a few spots left, but they're dry and healing.

Wish it did come in a larger container, as I tend to use quite a bit on the two horses. I will try the powder as well when I get a chance 👍🏻
My girl has had cannon crud for many years. Nothing helped- ever. She is allergic to chlohexidine which I discovered after the skin peeled off her cannon. I was really leary after realizing her sensitivity. I monitored her carefully with the clay. She was fine. I just applied it and let it do its thing. Her legs have never been this clean.
Rio has allergies. He chews on his legs which creates open sores. Coat Defense is great because it keeps the flies off of the sore and it allows the wound to stay uncovered which speeds up the healing process.
