DOG Questions

Yes, the daily Preventative Powder can be used for the ears.

DO NOT squirt directly down ear canal. Discontinue use of all ear washes, drops, and wipes prior to using the powder. Wait 3-5 days and test in small area first. While the powder is safe and non-toxic, it has an alkaline pH and could cause a reaction on chemically irritated skin.

When using it as a remedy, apply a thin layer to the inner surface up to the canal continuously until cleared. A finger, cotton pad, or makeup brush are great for application without going too deeply down into the canal (where the middle ear/eardrum is). Once cleared, it is an excellent preventative used daily especially as a final dry after baths.

Generally, the powder is used when the skin is itchy, moist, red, bumpy, smelly, or flaky. And the paste is used when the skin is bleeding or oozing like on open sores or wounds. The paste is also good for hot spots on dogs, or bug bites on anyone... even you! Please give us a call to help guide you for what your sweet one is struggling with 571-577-6435. You can also refer to our user guide on each product page for more details.

When using the powder as a remedy, you will want to use it continuously down to the skin in the troubled areas for at least 3 days or until cleared. As it wears off, apply more so the skin stays constantly covered - which can be several times a day. This will get ahead of any overgrowth of pathogen on the skin. Once cleared, it is an effective preventative especially when used as a final dry on damp prone areas. Many customers make it a part of their pet's bedtime routine.

It is not uncommon for the skin to ooze or look red after powder application; your dog's brilliant immune system is using its detergent/ooze to clean out the now dead yeast. Yeast is not just on the skin but in the skin and hair follicles, too. It is pushing the now dead yeast out in the same way our skin oozes to clean a wound or bug bite to remove pathogens or venom. It will not generate new healthy skin until the cleaning is complete. Wipe any moisture away and continue to apply the powder. If it gets too "gunky" to wipe away, you can use a wet cloth. Just make sure to follow-up with the powder after as a final dry and continue to use until cleared. It will subside when immune system clears it all out; it is part of the process of generating new healthy skin especially for dogs who have been struggling for a while.

Medicated and chemical shampoos, topicals, wipes, etc. all contain ingredients that strip the skin leaving it raw and hypersensitive. You cannot always see this because it is at the skin level. Our powder and paste both contain baking soda, making them have an alkaline pH and they can cause a reaction on chemically irritated skin. Additionally, chemical products not only strip the bad microbes off the skin but also take the good microbes needed for skin wellness. The good keep the bad (like yeast) in check. When you take the good away the skin cannot restore balance which is why you do not see lasting relief from the medicated/chemical products.

If you are using oral flea preventatives, yes, you can use the products with your flea medications. However, if you are using topical flea preventatives like drops or collars, we do not recommend using the powder on these areas. These pesticides chemically irritate the skin which can cause a reaction. The good news is that our powder will dehydrate and kill fleas while it is on. It also is lightly scented with cedarwood oil, which is a known deterrent, but it does need to be on to be effective.

First, you will want to stop using the medicated products before getting ours. Wait 3-5 days but honestly, if you have been using them a long time, a week would be better before doing a patch test. Pick an area on the skin to test the powder. It should be an area where you can tell if a reaction is occurring. Signs of a reaction would be swelling, severe redness, heat, or discomfort. It is not uncommon to see increased moisture as the body will ooze to push the pathogen (like yeast) from the skin. If a reaction occurs, stop using it and wait another week. Try again. The good news is skin is always regenerating so eventually, you will be able to use the powder. It just can take a few weeks or longer in some cases for the top layer of skin to become back intact from using the medicated products. In the meantime, our Sensitive Skin Dog Shampoo is a great option to keep the skin soothed while transitioning.

You certainly can shampoo your dog first. However, if your dog is struggling with skin issues like yeast the powder is the remedy. You will want to use the powder by itself for at least 3 days straight before bathing again. Yeast often thrives in moisture so the idea is to keep the skin dry. The powder is also an excellent final dry after a bath.

Yes, our products are safe for puppies and pregnant dogs.

Yes. All ingredients are non-toxic, non caustic, and safe if ingested. However, they need to be on to be effective and will not work if your pet is licking them off. A cone, donut collar, t-shirt, or even socks are all great ways to keep your pet from licking to give the products a chance to be effective without interruption.

Horse Questions

Yes. But we now offer a canine and cat version available with cedarwood oil instead of peppermint oil to help with mites, fleas and tick control.

Additionally, please follow the dog product instructions and notice when using the horse products on your pup since they are different. You can find this information directly on our dog powder page or in our FAQ section.

No, the Thrush Coat is not the same as our daily Preventative Powder for horses. The concentration of ingredients is different, and our Thrush Coat has the added benefit of Zinc Oxide.

The paste will dry to a hard protective barrier but because of this it can flake off easier on areas of high movement. A pro tip is to add some witch hazel or water to make a thinner application, so it does not flake off as easily as your horse moves.

General Questions

Results vary. Some situations will see immediate results, while others may take several days with constant applications.

This is a grey area where a lot of companies promoting, they are all natural have found a way around. Oftentimes, these shampoos still contain ingredients like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate as their lathering agent. They also can hide some nasty ingredients in words listed as “Fragrance” which means they oftentimes contain petroleum derived fragrances. Our products truly are natural with no fillers and all active ingredients listed directly on our website and bottle with full transparency like it should be. Please keep in mind that we do not recommend using our powder on chemically irritated skin as this can cause a reaction.

The shampoo is concentrated so we do recommend diluting it. The spray bottle is just the easiest way we have found for our customers to not only dilute it but also to apply it. You would mix the 8-ounce in the 32-ounce spray bottle with water. Wet your pup, apply the spray and gently work into a lather, then rinse your pup. You can leave the shampoo on for 5-7 minutes to take most advantage of the aloe. This is not a medicated shampoo, so you do not have to use it so many times a week for so many minutes. The powder is the remedy. You do not have to dilute it if that is easier for you. Just keep in mind a little goes a long way. If you choose this route you want to make sure you start with a dime sized amount and use more water when trying to lather your pup up.

The paste can dry out over time due to the nature of the ingredients. It does not have an expiration date so it can be rehydrated and used if it has dried out.

To rehydrate: Add water or witch hazel to create the desired consistency. You can either do this in a small amount in the cap or rehydrate the whole container.

Each animal is different, same as humans. We recommend applying it to a small area first and then checking for any type of reaction before applying it to entire body.

Yes, you can use our Canine & Cats line on kitties too. The biggest challenge is cats are natural groomers and while our products are safe and non-toxic they do need to be on to be effective. You may need a cone or collar to keep your kitty from grooming the powder off to get the best results. Also, since it does have bentonite clay it can dry their tongue a bit so having clean fresh water available is recommended.
