Directions
Gently clean any dirt or debris from treatment area. Flaky skin or scabs are ok. DO NOT pick off any existing scabs.
With one hand, gently push back fur so that the area is exposed. With the other hand, use fingers to apply a coating of the paste to the hotspot as if spreading peanut butter on a piece of bread. Do not rub in.
Note: Try to avoid applying paste to fur. The paste is not harmful, though it will dry like a scab and require bathing or brushing to remove.
Paste will dry to a near white shell. It is also effective if thinned out with water or witch hazel. Some breeds have coats that need a thinner viscosity to stick to skin.
Avoid applying the paste into paws, on joints or in skin folds. The scab that forms is abrasive.
Allow at least 2 days for skin cells to knit together under its protection. Use a wet cloth or water to remove.
Reapply as needed until skin is completely healed.
NOTICE- PLEASE STOP AND READ BEFORE USING:
Discontinue use of medicated shampoos, topicals, or wipes especially those containing SODIUM LAUREL SULFATE, CHLORAHEXIDINE, COAL TAR, and SALYCILIC ACID. If using medicated shampoos, topicals, or wipes with these ingredients, we recommend waiting 3-5 days from last use to apply our powder and patch test to be safe. The powder is non-toxic but too alkaline for chemically irritated skin and may cause a reaction.
Most commercially available shampoos have ingredients that dry out skin and impede healing. We recommend not using these.
Avoid using on areas of skin treated with topical flea medications including under flea collars. The pesticides in these products often irritate the skin; combining with powder may cause a reaction.
Some dogs with systemic yeast overgrowth may ooze after powder application. This is part of the normal healing process and will subside. Wipe the moisture and reapply fresh powder.
Many pets find relief within 1-3 days. For those on anti-biotics and or steroids, or have otherwise been immune compromised, results and healing may take 1-2 weeks.
Sequence matters. Here's the routine that works and why it works in this order.
01
Clean the Area
Gently wipe away dirt or debris from the wound, hot spot, or bite. Leave any existing scabs alone — picking at them slows healing
02
Apply Thickly
Scoop the paste with your fingertips and spread a thick layer over the area. Don't rub it in.
03
Let It Dry & Protect
Leave it on for several days as it dries into a protective, near-white shell that draws out moisture and stops the itch. Reapply until the skin is fully healed
The product is great! My only problem is that Charlie licks it off if I don't put the cone on his neck immediately. He's been wearing the cone on and off for months now. He is so happy without the cone and I feel so bad when I need to put it on him. However, he is slowly improving. I love how this product dries his hot spots so quickly. I will continue to use it and fight the fight with Charlie's skin issues. I will be so happy when he is hot spot free.
My dog's paws were all red and had sores that would bleed.i put the coat defense trouble spot drying paste and it worked wonders. I would highly recommend this product if your dog has allergies that affect the paws.
My daisy had afew spots of yeast spreading on her inner thighs.the powder did the trick combined with the wuffes chews and a pasty spread.i had my doubts but it really worked.it did take 5 weeks of treatments but she's soooo much better
Thought back to my horse days and said we’ll let me see if coat defense will work on dogs. And… it does ! Quick, easy and on the go for my dog who ripped up her paw pads ! It’s a must for my travels and it’s an easy 123 application. Thank you !
This really helped my dogs ear tips that were scabby and raw due to allergies. Bonus: I used it on myself for an insect bite and it worked quick and effective!
It took a little time but my cat was still licking off the clay consistency. But, we just kept working at it. So I’d say it was pretty successful, but it just depends on your animal I think

I really cannot give a rating. By the time the product arrive, the little red spots were gone. If they occur again then i will be prepared.
I will say that the ordering, shipping and receiving was excellent.
Love these products! So far his itching has slowed down. His hot spots are going away (they would probably be gone completely if our crippled goat didn't like the cream off our dog after I put it on lol) apparently she loves it too! 🤦♀️
It’s hard to apply on a double coated dog and hard to tell if it’s working.
She just got her summer cut and it should be easier to apply and see the results. Time will tell.
The coat defense powder wasn’t quite cutting it with our oldest female boxer so we tried this and sure enough took care of the problem. Now we got her back on track I reordered the powder in the big bag and maintain with that. Mind you prior to find these products we spent thousands of dollars at the Vets. We also took her to specialist nothing they recommended took care of the problem. Thank you
I only recently bought this drying paste for my Frenchie's paws. I didn't realize the paste would be a darkish color. Applying the drying paste has helped, BUT my Frenchie looks like she is wearing socks.
My pups paw was red and inflammed maybe a bug bite. I applied the paste for each day since we had lots if rain here. Each time I checked his paw the redness was leaving. This was a very good remedy for my puppy. Very happy with Coat Defense.
