Frequently Asked Questions

When using the powder to remedy yeast overgrowth/itch/stink/skin inflammation leave it on troubled areas constantly until cleared up.  It usually takes a few days of continuous coverage to nip it in the bud.  Once clear it is an effective preventative especially if used as a final dry on prone areas after bath, swimming and damp days.  Yeast requires moisture so using the powder in this way will prevent it from returning.  It is also a convenient dry shampoo for in between baths or grooms because it dissipates any doggy odor and keeps the skin funk away.

It is not uncommon for the skin to ooze or look red after powder application; your dog's brilliant immune system is using its detergent/ ooze to clean out the now dead yeast. Yeast is not just on the skin but in the skin and hair follicles, too. It is pushing the now dead yeast out in the same way our skin oozes to clean a wound or bug bite to remove pathogens or venom. It will not generate new healthy skin until the cleaning is complete. Wipe the moisture and apply fresh powder.  It will subside when immune system clears it all out; it is part of the process of generating new healthy skin especially for dogs who have been struggling for awhile.

Medicated and chemical shampoos, topicals, wipes, etc. all contain ingredients that strip the skin leaving it raw and hypersensitive. You cannot always see this because it is at the skin level. Although our powder and paste are completely non toxic they are too alkaline for chemically irritated/stripped skin and may cause a reaction. Additionally, chemical products not only strip the bad microbes off the skin but also take the good microbes needed for skin wellness. The good guys keep the bad (like yeast) in check. When you take the good away the skin cannot restore balance which is why you do not see lasting relief from the medicated products.  If your dog has a flea collar just avoid area where it is in contact with the skin.

It is a remedy not a cure. Yeast overgrowth and hotspots are caused by a skin micro biome that is out of balance; when there aren't enough protective microbes on the skin to keep the pathogens in check; they overgrow unimpeded which causes  itch, stink, skin inflammation and hairloss. The powder changes the terrain on the skin making it uninhabitable for yeast and once they can't survive or reproduce the symptoms of itch, skin inflammation and stink go away with it...it is doing the job of the friendly beneficial microbes that are deficient. If not used as a preventative; especially as a final dry on prone areas anytime your pup is damp after bathing, swimming and on damp days the yeast will reproduce rapidly and the symptoms will return. Until the skin micro biome is back intact this has been a wonderful solution that has given dogs relief...many have been suffering for many years and we are delighted that we have been able to keep them comfortable in their own skin.  Restoring the skin micro biome takes time...it is usually destroyed by chemical laden topicals...medicated shampoo, wipes and sprays being the worst...many medications cause systemic yeast overgrowth so if your dog has been on medications and the friendly bugs haven't been restored or you're using chemical laden skin topicals it will defeat any progress. In the meantime the powder is an effective way to keep your pup comfortable in their skin.

There is also a skin micro biome; the first layer of the immune system...like the gut when the good guys are destroyed the pathogens reproduce unimpeded and cause skin inflammation, itch and stink. This is caused by chemical laden topicals, shampoos, wipes and medications. Often times medications like anti biotics and immuno suppressants prescribed to millions of dogs result in systemic yeast overgrowth. We agree that nutrition is essential to whole body wellness. The powder eliminates pathogenic and parasitic overgrowth on the skin and gives fast and safe relief without toxic medications or topicals for dogs who may never get their beneficial microbes back intact or until they do. It is something that can safely be used while also healing the gut to keep them comfortable.  We are big fans of whole body wellness.

First, you will want to stop using the medicated products before getting ours. Wait 3-5 days but honestly, if you have been using them a long time, a week would be better before doing a patch test. Pick an area on the skin to test the powder. It should be an area where you can tell if a reaction is occurring. Signs of a reaction would be swelling, severe redness, heat, or discomfort. It is not uncommon to see increased moisture as the body will ooze to push the pathogen (like yeast) from the skin. If a reaction occurs, stop using it and wait another week. Try again. The good news is skin is always regenerating so eventually, you will be able to use the powder. It just can take a few weeks or longer in some cases for the top layer of skin to become back intact from using the medicated products. In the meantime, our Sensitive Skin Dog Shampoo is a great option to keep the skin soothed while transitioning.

The powder is the remedy for yeast overgrowth, itch and stink.  Leave it on troubled areas constantly until cleared up; usually takes a few days to nip it in the bud.  This can be used first or after bathing with the shampoo which will clean and soothe skin before starting but we do not recommend bathing while in the elimination phase because yeast thrives in moisture so it is best to keep your pup as dry as possible during this period.

The shampoo is aloe based and free of harsh ingredients found in most others.  It is soothing, moisturizing and healing.  It will not compound existing skin troubles or cause new ones because it leaves the natural skin oils and protective skin microbes intact.  Both required for the skin to be well.  It is best to shampoo either before starting the powder elimination phase or after it's cleared up.  Yeast thrives in moisture so it is best to keep your pup as dry as possible during the powder elimination phase.

The shampoo is concentrated so we do recommend diluting it. The spray bottle is just the easiest way we have found for our customers to not only dilute it but also to apply it. You would mix the 8-ounce in the 32-ounce spray bottle with water. Wet your pup, apply the spray and gently work into a lather, then rinse your pup.You can leave the shampoo on for 5-7 minutes to take most advantage of the aloe. This is not a medicated shampoo, so you do not have to use it so many times a week for so many minutes. The powder is the remedy. You do not have to dilute it if that is easier for you. Just keep in mind a little goes a long way. If you choose this route you want to make sure you start with a dime sized amount and use more water when trying to lather your pup up.
