FAQ
As a general rule, the powder is used when the skin is itchy, moist, red, bumpy, smelly, or flaky. And the paste is used when the skin is bleeding or oozing like on open sores or wounds. The paste is also good for hot spots on dogs, or bug bites on anyone... even you! Please give us a call to help guide you for what your sweet one is struggling with 571-577-6435. You can also refer to our user guide on each product page for more details.
As often as you like. When using the powder as a remedy, you will want to use it continuously down to the skin in the troubled areas for at least 3 days or until cleared. As it wears off, apply more so the skin stays constantly covered. This will get ahead of any overgrowth of pathogen on the skin. Once cleared, it is an effective preventative especially when used as a final dry on damp prone areas. Many customers make it a part of their pet’s bedtime routine.
Results vary. Some situations will see immediate results, while others may take several days with constant applications.
It is not uncommon to see increased moisture from the skin when first starting. Oftentimes, yeast is not only on the skin but in the skin. The body's natural detergent is to ooze and push the pathogen from the skin/hair follicle. The powder speeds this process up due to the bentonite clay's drawing and drying ability. Wipe any moisture away and continue to apply the powder. If it gets too "gunky" to wipe away, you can use a wet cloth. Just make sure to follow-up with the powder after as a final dry and continue to use until cleared.
Yes. All ingredients are non-toxic, non-caustic, and safe if ingested. However, they need to be on to be effective and will not work if your pet is licking them off. A cone, collar, t-shirt, or even socks are all great ways to keep your pet from licking to give the products a chance to be effective without interruption.
Medicated shampoos, topicals, wipes, etc. all contain ingredients that strip the skin leaving it raw and hypersensitive. You cannot always see this because it is at the skin level. Our powder and paste both contain baking soda, making them have an alkaline pH and they can cause a reaction on chemically irritated skin. Additionally, chemical products not only strip the bad microbes off the skin but also take the good microbes needed for skin wellness. The good keep the bad (like yeast) in check. When you take the good away the skin cannot restore balance which is why you do not see lasting relief from the medicated products.
If you are using oral flea preventatives, yes, you can use the products with your flea medications. However, if you are using topical flea preventatives like drops or collars, we do not recommend using the powder on these areas. These pesticides chemically irritate the skin which can cause a reaction. The good news is, our powder will dehydrate and kill fleas while it is on. It also is lightly scented with cedarwood oil which is a known deterrent, but it does need to be on to be effective.
First, you will want to stop using the medicated products before getting ours. Wait 3-5 days but honestly, if you have been using them a long time, a week would be better before doing a patch test. Pick an area on the skin to test the powder. It should be an area where you can tell if a reaction is occurring. Signs of a reaction would be swelling, severe redness, heat, or discomfort. It is not uncommon to see increased moisture as the body will ooze to push the pathogen (like yeast) from the skin. If a reaction occurs, stop using and wait another week. Try again. The good news is skin is always regenerating so eventually, you will be able to use the powder. It just can take a few weeks or longer in some cases for the top layer of skin to become back intact from using the medicated products. In the meantime, our Sensitive Skin Dog Shampoo is a great option to keep the skin soothed while transitioning.
This is a grey area that a lot of companies promoting they are all natural have found a way around. Oftentimes, these shampoos still contain ingredients like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate as their lathering agent. They also can hide some nasty ingredients in words listed as “Fragrance” which means they oftentimes contain petroleum derived fragrances. Our products truly are all natural with no fillers and all active ingredients listed directly on our website and bottle with full transparency like it should be. Please keep in mind that we do not recommend using our powder on chemically irritated skin as this can cause a reaction.
The shampoo is concentrated so we do recommend diluting it. The spray bottle is just the easiest way we have found for our customers to not only dilute it but also to apply it. You would mix the 8-ounce in the 32-ounce spray bottle with water. Wet your pup, apply the spray and gently work into a lather, then rinse your pup. You can leave the shampoo on for 5-7 minutes to take most advantage of the aloe. This is not a medicated shampoo, so you do not have to use it so many times a week for so many minutes. The powder is the remedy. You do not have to dilute it if that is easier for you. Just keep in mind a little goes a long way. If you choose this route you want to make sure you start with a dime sized amount and use more water when trying to lather your pup up.
You certainly can shampoo your dog first. However, if your dog is struggling with skin issues like yeast the powder is the remedy. You will want to use the powder by itself for at least 3 days straight before bathing again. Yeast oftentimes, thrives in moisture so the idea is to keep the skin dry. The powder is also an excellent final dry after a bath.
Yes, you can use the daily Preventative Powder in the ears. When using as a remedy, apply a thin layer to the inner surface up to the inner canal continuously until cleared. A makeup brush works great for application. Once cleared, it is an excellent preventative used daily especially as a final dry after baths.
Yes. But we now offer a canine and cat version available with cedar wood oil instead of peppermint oil to help with mites, fleas and ticks control.
Each animal is different. We recommend applying it to a small area first and then check for any type of reaction before applying it to entire body.
Yes, you can use our Canine & Cats line on kitties too. The biggest challenge is cats are natural groomers and while our products are safe and non-toxic they do need to be on to be effective. You may need a cone or collar to keep your kitty from grooming the powder off to get the best results. Also, since it does have bentonite clay it can dry their tongue a bit so having clean fresh water available is recommended.
